Who should have played Tubbs?

I must say that I really like Jamie Foxx as an actor. However, I LOVED Philip Michael Thomas - the original token black guy on Miami Vice. As such, I wonder if Director, Michael Mann searched far and wide enough before he selected Jamie Foxx to play Ricardo Tubbs in the big screen version.

I even did some screen tests with this guy. What do you think?
